Understanding the severe forces in a motor vehicle crash
My friend Matt Flournoy in Marietta has posted on YouTube an excellent video explaining the extreme forces acting upon the human body in motor vehicle crashes.
The Shigley Law Firm represents plaintiffs in wrongful death and catastrophic injury cases statewide in Georgia, and in other states subject to the multijurisdictional practice and pro hac vice rules in each state. Ken Shigley was designated as a "SuperLawyer" in Atlanta Magazine and one of the "Legal Elite" in Georgia Trend Magazine. He is a Certified Civil Trial Advocate of the National Board of Trial Advocacy, Chair of the Southeastern Motor Carrier Liability Institute and former chair of the Georgia Insurance Law Institute. He particularly focuses on cases arising from truck wrecks and accidents (tractor trailers truck wrecks, semi truck wrecks,18 wheeler truck wrecks, big rig truck wrecks, log truck wrecks, dump truck wrecks.
Many years ago, in California driver ed, we had to watch CHiP movies of crash scenes, as well as filmed autopsies on the effect alcohol had on the brain.
The instructors took it in stride when the boys (being boys) started saying they thought crashes were cool. The very first film usually sobered them up to where a couple of times, some kids had to leave to throw up and others were in tears. Oh, you got your license, but you got it knowing a bit more of the tremendous forces that can kill when the laws of physics are violated, and being shown what could happen IF did a lot to
erase that smug and cocky self confidence.
I don't know if they do it now, but I am showing that video to my soon to be permitted son to give him an idea of what the rescue people see and what doesn't go through you minds when you get into a car.
1/10th of a second is all it takes and forever is a long long time.
